Harvesting
Harvest Ready
Olive harvesting has come a long way from the old techniques of beating the tree with a big stick! Nowadays, grove management techniques combined with hi-tech harvesting machinery are being developed worldwide. This aids the grower and lowers production costs, which are then passed on in savings to the olive consumer.
The Past
Most of the olive trees that were planted throughout the world in the past relied solely on manual labour to hand pick the olives and modern harvesting techniques weren’t even thought of. Due to this, trees were planted closer together and multiple trunks were left to spread the trees out aiding the worker with their laborious picking.
The Present
Today, with the development of harvesting machinery, modern olive groves are planted out to utilise this equipment via spacing and pruning, giving them an advantage over the older established groves by lowering harvesting costs.
The EVO Advantage
All of Eden Valley’s olive trees have been planted out to take advantage of modern methods. By spacing its trees to allow clear access (6 x 8m) and pruning the trees into a single clean trunk (at least 1 metre from the ground) allows a quicker and cost effective way of getting the olives off the trees via mechanical harvesting.
